On March 8, International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women around the globe. At Cheyenne OBGYN, we want every woman to feel important, celebrated, and healthy this month. Taking care of your body can be difficult during this busy time of the year, but we encourage women to prioritize their health and take those steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Below are some key actions to put your physical and mental health first this March.

Actions to Prioritize Your Health:

Lifestyle Choices:

  • Regular exercise: Aim for around 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise every week to keep in good health. In addition, include muscle-strengthening exercise at least twice a week to help strengthen your body.
  • Healthy diet and nutrition: Each a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, lean protein, and whole grains. This will contribute to your overall physical health and reduce stress levels.
  • Sleep maintenance: Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Women may need to sleep more depending on their hormonal cycles and bodily changes.

Mental Health Support:

  • Stress management: Managing your stress levels is critical for your overall health. Practice stress-reducing activities including meditation, yoga, stretching, and deep breathing so your body can find relaxation.
  • Self-care: Prioritize your health by incorporating self-care activities in your daily routine. This could be a relaxing bath every night or connecting with your loved ones every day.
  • Listening to your body: Your body will let you know what it needs. Listen to your body and prioritize what you need to support your health.

Regular Screenings and Checkups:

  • Scheduling regular appointments: Doctors’ offices can be scary, but those appointments are important for women to attend and check on their health concerns. Make sure to schedule an annual well-woman exam and address any questions that come up.
  • Preventative screenings: As women age, the chances of different illnesses or conditions increase. Depending on age and health, scheduling screenings like mammograms and pap smears help you detect anything abnormal quickly.
